We have travelled extensively across the UK, especially when we lived in London for 3 years. We recently visited London and stayed close to Hyde Park. We revisited many of the key places in London, like the Westminster Parliament, Big Ben, Tower of London, St. James Park and Buckingham Palace.

We visited the Canterbury Cathedral, which is quite stunning and has a lot of history. On December 29, 1170, the Archbishop of Canterbury was brutally murdered by four knights inside the cathedral. According to eyewitness accounts, Thomas Becket fled to the main cathedral and clung to a pillar to protect himself before being struck down. The shadow in the crypt is said to be the Archbishop still clinging to the historic sanctuary (more a myth than reality :-).

The visit to Eastbourne was stunning, with amazing views of the cliffs and beautiful walks.

We visited Cambridge (which is where my son did his master’s in Engineering later) and spent a couple of days exploring the city. The boat ride, walk along the college campuses were awesome.

We did a trip to south western England. We covered Cornwall, St Michael’s Mount, Stonehenge, Bristol Bridge and quite a few other places.
St Michael’s Mount, a tidal island in Cornwall’s Mount’s Bay, is a site of rich history. Evolving from an ancient Neolithic trading post and a medieval monastic priory tied to Mont-Saint-Michel, it transformed into a military stronghold during the Wars of the Roses and an English Civil War fortress

We did a trip to Wales, covering Cardiff, Snowdon mountain and Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. The sceneries in all these places were really stunning.

We visited central England, covering the Lake District, Carlisle Castle and Hadrian’s Wall. The scenery, and the history are really interesting.

Hadrian’s Wall was a massive defensive fortification built by the Roman Empire across northern Britain starting in AD 122. Ordered by Emperor Hadrian, the 73-mile (80 Roman miles) barrier stretched coast-to-coast to control movement, secure the frontier, and separate Romans from unconquered northern tribes.

Our last major trip in the UK was to Scotland. We started with Edinburgh, where we saw the Castle, the Scottish Parliament and many other sights. Then we visited Aviemore, Inverness, Inchnadamph bone caves and climbed on top of Cairngorms mountain. We explored the Ness River in fair amount of detail too.
