Mt. Chandrashila and Deoria Tal Lake

Chandrashila mountain is situated in Uttarakhand in northern India. The mountain is 3,690 metres in height, and trekking up is of moderate difficulty. We took a package tour, which departed from east Delhi.

After an overnight road trip, our first stop was at Devprayag. This is where the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers meet and become the Ganga river (the most revered river of India). The atmosphere was serene and brought a sense of calm to the mind and body.

Our next stop was at the Dhari Devi temple, which is located in a very scenic spot.

The base camp for the trek up Chandrashila was at Chopta village. The camp we stayed at required a steep climb. The surrounding views of the Himalayas was quite stunning.

We started the climb up Chandrashila around 8.30 am. The views on the climb to the summit were awesome. It is essential to have support sticks, as well as snow chains on the boots to avoid slippage.

On the way up, we had a glimpse of the Tungnath temple, one of the highest Shiva temples. The temple remains closed in the winter months.

The last stretch of the climb was quite strenuous. In some places, the ledges were narrow and covered with ice. Adding to the worry was the steepness of the hills.

We finally made it to the summit after 3 and a half hours of climb. The scenery from the top was totally worth the effort.

The next day, we did a trek to the Deoria Tal lake. It was a 2 hour trek on the climb up. The views of the Himalayan range was breathtaking.
