Namibia

We visited Namibia in 2011. We flew into Windhoek from Johannesburg. We hired a vehicle at Windhoek airport, and our first place of visit was Swakopmund. We hired a guide who drove us to Sandwich Harbour on a 4WD. We saw flamingoes, jackals, seals and many species of birds on our drive. The sand dunes and the views of the Atlantic Ocean beach were great.

From Swakopmund we drove towards Etosha national park. On the way we stopped at Damaraland to see the petrified forest.

We stayed at Okaukuejo Camp in Etosha national park. The standalone accommodation is just next to the watering hole. The magic of Okaukuejo Camp is that one doesn’t need to go looking for animals, the animals come to the watering hole in large numbers, including Black Rhinos, Giraffes, Lions, Zebras, Elephants, etc.

We did day trips and had great sightings in the park, including in both Halali and Namutoni camps.

Overall, the trips to Sandwich Harbour, and Etosha were awesome.
