Latin America

Our first trip to South America was in December 2024. We visited three countries, Brazil, Chile and Argentina. We loved all three countries. The culture, art, history, nature and people were really impressive.

Brazil was the first country we visited. We covered Rio de Janeiro, the Amazon rainforest (via Manaus) and São Paulo.

In Argentina we covered Buenos Aires and Iguazu falls, and in Chile we covered Santiago and Valparaiso.

In Argentina we also visited Ushuaia, but details of that is already documented as part of our Antarctica trip.

Key highlights of the three countries are described in the pictures below.

Rio de Janeiro Metropolitan Cathedral, with a standing capacity of 20,000 people
Christ the Redeemer, Rio de Janeiro – accessed via train (alternatively mini vans)
On route to Tijuca peak (near Rio de Janeiro), with magnificent views all around
Sunset at Amazon rainforest (nearest airport is Manaus)
Forest walk, Amazon rainforest

We visited Latin America again in January/ February 2026, covering six countries. First we visited Peru, covering Machu Picchu and Lima, then we visited Colombia, covering Bogota and Cartagena. Our third country was Chile, where we travelled to Patagonia (Torres del Paine) and then to Atacama. Our fourth country was Bolivia, where we covered Uyuni and La Paz. Next we flew to Costa Rica, covering, San Jose, Arenal volcano, Monteverde rainforest and then Corcovado National Park. Our last country was Mexico, where we covered Mexico City, Cancun, Chichen Itza and Plaza de Carmen. The trip was great and we got to learn about the history and culture of these countries.
