Beagle Channel & Drakes Passage

Our journey began on Day 1 with a chartered flight from Santiago, Chile. We flew to Ushuaia, located in the southern tip of Argentina. The views of snow capped mountains on the flight over Chile were amazing.

In Ushuaia, before boarding the ship, we did a tour of the Tierra del Fuego “End of the World”. The catamaran took us through the Beagle Channel. We saw a lot of wildlife, including the Imperial Shag, Elephant seals, Kelp Gulls, Arctic Terns and many others.

We boarded the ship in the evening of Day 1, and Day 2 was spend crossing the Drake’s Passage. We were quite fortunate that the Drake’s Passage was quite calm. The waves weren’t higher than a couple of metres (record height of unto 18 metres). At the start of the Drake’s Passage, we observed a lot of wildlife. We saw Fin whales, Penguins, Shags and Petrels.
