A trip to Antarctica was on my bucket list for about a decade. I finally made it in December of 2024. In this page, I will share the planning, and in the sub-sections, details of how the actual expedition unfolded.
Planning: I investigated various cruise options, and finally selected Lindblad Expedition’s National Geographic Resolution. I am glad with the choice, since the journey was quite remarkable. Experts from National Geographic provided their valuable experience all the time. A point to note is that cruise ships with more than 500 passengers aren’t allowed to conduct landing activities on the white continent. I confirmed my booking in January 2024, 12 months ahead of the trip. My recommendation is to consider doing it 15-18 months ahead, since many of the cabins were already sold out 12 months ahead.
Preparation for the expedition: The expedition team provides all necessary guidance for clothes to pack. They address any health concerns one might have. They also offer reading material, which I found really helpful.
Broad itinerary: Our expedition itinerary was as follows: Chartered flight from Santiago, Chile to Ushuaia, Argentina, followed by the cruise departing from Ushuaia to Antarctica, and returning back to Ushuaia, followed by chartered flight back to Santiago. The total expedition lasted 10 days, of which we spent 6 days exploring Antarctica.
